ARECO-RWANDA NZIZA, in collaboration with Burera District, organised a two-day evaluation and learning event under the EU-funded KungaBu Project, titled Increasing Food Production and Livelihood Improvement in the Kamiranzovu Marshland Area, Burera District.

The event brought together 23 representatives from Burera District, ARECO-RWANDA NZIZA, the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB), the Joint Supervision Team, local authorities, beneficiary cooperatives, and community representatives.

On 29 October 2026, stakeholders gathered at New Snow Ineza Hotel in Musanze District for a three-year project evaluation. The session provided an opportunity to review implementation progress, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned, as well as assess the project’s contribution to agricultural production, food security, climate resilience, and improved community livelihoods. Discussions also highlighted the importance of sustaining the benefits and investments generated through the project.
On 30 October 2026, participants visited Golden Insect Ltd in Nyakinama, Musanze District, to gain practical knowledge of vermicomposting and explore its potential application at the compost preparation facility established under the KungaBu Project. The visit aimed to expose stakeholders to alternative sustainable compost production techniques that could improve organic fertiliser production and strengthen the facility’s contribution to farmers’ access to productive agricultural inputs.

Hosted by the company’s Managing Director, Mr Dominique Xavio Imbabazi, participants learned about the production of organic fertilisers using specialised earthworms and locally available organic materials. The practical demonstration provided valuable insights into transforming organic materials into nutrient-rich fertilisers that support environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

Together, the two activities reinforced the importance of stakeholder collaboration, knowledge exchange, and sustainable agricultural solutions in improving food production, strengthening food security, and enhancing community livelihoods.
Through the EU-funded KungaBu Project, ARECO-RWANDA NZIZA, in partnership with Burera District, continues to contribute to sustainable agricultural development and improved livelihoods in the Kamiranzovu Marshland Area.
